Wakesurf shuv-it basics: prerequisites and safe progression
A shuv-it asks the board to rotate beneath the rider while the body remains comparatively quiet. It is an advanced progression that should come after stable rope-free riding, speed control, turns, and reliable board recovery.

Build control before pop
The rider should be able to move around the pocket and unload the board without falling out of position. A stable base makes it easier to distinguish a footwork problem from a wave-position problem.
Keep the movement low and deliberate
The board rotation comes from coordinated foot pressure and release, not a large uncontrolled jump. The coach can demonstrate the direction, identify where the board is escaping, and select a safer drill for the next attempt.
Use conditions and ability as gates
Not every day is appropriate for a new trick. Traffic, surface quality, fatigue, and the rider's current consistency all affect the decision. The captain and coach may return to fundamentals when that creates the better session.
